Tags: Untagged

southerncrossdormroom

Hello everyone, We are Rachel and Oly the new management at Southern Cross Backpackers. We are very excited to be here and look forward to working with you all. We have a lot of plans for the hostel and hope we can enhance the beautiful experience that Southern Cross is already famous for, allowing Chris and Lisa the break they deserve.

Creating a community through activities

creatingacommunity

We at the Arts Factory Lodge in Byron Bay love to involve our guests in activities and therefore offer a big variety of activities for our guests to participate in. From Yoga to Druming lessons to the possibility to learn how to play and make your own Didgeridoo! Our Bushtucker Walks and Trivia nights held by the legendary Cockatoo Paul (he walks around with a cockatoo on his shoulder! How cool is that?) are always a lot of fun too.

Australian things to take back home

australianitemTimTam

When I first arrived in Australia my suitcase weighted a small 13kg, filled with nothing but clothes and toiletries. Throughout my trip though, I seem to be accumulating more and more stuff. Now I am starting to wonder how on earth am I going to get it all home?? It's not until you start packing that you realise how much useless stuff you have sitting in your room. Some of the items I have accumulated I can easily throw away but some things are definitely coming home with me because I will look back on these items in years to come and remember all the great times I had in Australia.

Kiwi Traditions

haka-kiwitraditions

New Zealand is known for lots of different traditions, a lot of them being Maori. Can everyone say Haka?

Before you start your New Zealand adventure, be sure to brush up on your basic Kiwi knowledge, because after all you don't want to be embarrassed when someone tries to Hongi you, you don't know what that is? Keep reading you'll be enlightened.

How to relax after work

RelaxAfterWork-Exercise

Taken a holiday from work lately, or even just a few days off? Going back to work after a holiday can be a chore. The getting up early, the stresses of the tasks involved, and not forgetting the simple fact that you have to work. Some people can switch off from the stresses of work the second they leave the office but for some, this is not so easy.

Laos with Stray Asia

strayasiabus

It was not your average day, crossing over from Thailand into Laos (via a 5 minute river boat). The transition seemed too easy. Sighting the big orange bus on the side of the road, just after crossing the border into Laos I have to say was a magical sight. I have traveled extensively with Stray Travel in New Zealand and I have to say, I was pretty excited to journey with them again, this time in South East Asia!

Spot X Surf camp, I found my Mojo!

findyourmojo-surfing

A couple of weeks ago my friend left me her surfboard because she had to go back to the USA. I was really excited and everyone told me that this would be the perfect board to learn on since I have never surfed before. I've been in Byron Bay for a couple of months and  watched the surfers over here so many times. It  looked like heaps of fun and really easy. I heard from people who know way more about surfing than me that there are really good surfing beaches in Byron Bay. So I was very enthusiastic to take my board out and to finally go surfing.

South Island NZ with Stray

queenstown-mountcook

bzzz... bzzz... bzzzzzzz... If I had to rate the sound of my alarm in the early morning on a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 is the most annoying, I would give it a 15 but not on Tuesday the 16th of April 2013! This day, I would be travelling from Queenstown via Milford Sound, Mount Cook and many other amazing spots to Christchurch with the one and only orange bus from Stray!

Backpacking, how it's changed

artsfactorycommonroom

What is a backpacker these days? Does traveling with a suitcase mean you're not a backpacker? Does camping in a tent and roughing it mean you are? Or is it just that the times have changed so much with the advancement of new technology and the ever evolving tourism industry? So how has it changed and how far have we come?

The Ultimate Backpack

ultimatebackpack

When you think about backpacking around the world apart from the destinations, activities and what to pack you also need to think about how you are going to carry everything. The clue is in the name "Backpack"ing. Over the last few months I have seen all sorts of different people travelling with so many different types of bags. Different things work for different people, some prefer the suitcase on wheels, some prefer the backpack and some prefer to have a boyfriend who carries your bag for you (I call these people smart).
