Queenstown is known to be the party capital of New Zealand. It may be that the stunning scenery upon arrival sends every visitor into a state of euphoria, or the fact that there are over 50 bars in the tiny town. Either way, a night in Queenstown is likely to leave your pockets a little lighter and in desperate need of a hearty feed to cure that infamous hangover and ‘morning after fear’ that we all know and love. You will find everything from Mexican, Chinese, Thai, Indian, Japanese, Burgers, Italian and more. So here it is the best cheap eats Queenstown has on offer!

2. Pita Pit – The Mall

The subway of Pitas. Two sizes of pita with a large range of fillings and sauces. Excellent selection of pitas all for around $15, and you can have it as you like!

3. Caribe Latin Kitchen – The Mall

If you like it spicy this the place for you. Best burritos in town for $15. Eat half for lunch and save the other half for a snack later on. If you are into your spicy foods, ask for it hot and you won’t be let down.

6. @Thai – Church Street

Situated right across the street from Nomads Queenstown, these guys offer an unbeatable $12 takeaway box menu. That’s right… just $12 and you won’t be sorry. Take our word for it. You’ll be too full to move. Be crazy and get the extra sauce for 50c and thank us later.

Nomads Pick – green curry with chicken.

7. Fergburger – Shotover Street

Excellent variety of burgers available to eat in or take away. Prices start at $10 up to around $17 depending on how many extras you might add of course! A visit to Queenstown is just not complete without a visit to Fergburger.

Damn tasty burgers!

8. Fergbaker – (next door to Fergburger)

Fergburger is an institution in Queenstown and next door you’ll find the excellent Fergbaker. If you’re not in the mood for a burger, head here for delicious pies or pastries (and the best hot chocolate ever). You can get a classic mince and cheese pie for under $5 (seriously mince and cheese pies are so popular in NZ). Or try one of their other delicious pie combinations.

Nomads Pick – Lamb Shank Pie

9. Slice Pizza – Shotover Street

The most under-rated pizza joint in town, but who can say no to $2 slices of pizza all day long? That’s right only $2! Yummmmo!

Nomads Pick – Jumbo cheesy pleasure

10. Johnny Barrs – Church Street

Finally we get to the great Johnny Barrs. Just down the street from Nomads Queenstown, this homely little cafe serves all kinds of soups, wraps and sandwiches. They offer 10% discount to anyone with a moustache and have a happy hour from 4pm – 6pm where you can get $10 rolls.

Nomads Pick – We couldn’t choose just one favourite so here are 3:

  1. BBQ pulled pork roll
  2. Chicken tikka melt
  3. Caramel milkshake ($4 extra gets you a shot of baileys if you want to make it a little boozy)

It was hard narrowing this list down to just 10 Queenstown cheap eats, and we also have loads of other places to eat that are slightly more expensive (how on earth do we fit in all these restaurants in our small town?)
