The Great Ocean Road is a stretch of road located right by the beach. It is an Australian National Heritage Site that runs for 243 miles. On a bright and sunny day, you can spend some time on the beach. Between the bright blue waters and the sandy white beaches, you may never want to step foot inside. All that changes when the rain starts falling though. Just because it’s raining outside doesn’t mean that you need to head back home. You can check out any of the top five activities for a rainy day on the road.

Top 5 Great Ocean Road Rainy Day Activities

1. Narana Aboriginal Cultural Centre

Though the Narana Aboriginal Cultural Centre offers loads of things to do on a sunny day such as playing with wildlife, it also offers some fun things to do on a rainy day. The Art Gallery is just one. This gallery features some of the nation’s best aboriginal artwork and has pieces that you can buy and take home. You can even take a virtual tour at home to get a look at what you might see. Cafe Narana is a good place to sit down with a mug of hot coffee on a chilly day. It has a menu complete with scones and coffee cakes too. You can pick up gifts and souvenirs in the Retail Outlet and check out the exhibits in the Cultural Education Exhibition Building also.

2. Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum and Village

No matter how much time you have, you can head over to the Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village to learn more about the region and the people who once lived there. This quaint and charming village dates back to 1858 and is home to a lighthouse that is a national landmark. You can spend hours in the museum as you explore the artefacts found on some of the region’s shipwrecks. The collection includes the Loch Ard Peacock, which was found in 1878 and worth $4 million. Other artefacts are also on display.

3. Tastes of the Region

One of the top things to do and best places to go when it’s raining is Tastes of the Region, which has a convenient location next to the Great Ocean Road Brewhouse in Apollo Bay. There are dozens of foods and drinks such as craft beer that you can try, all of which come from the nearby region and road. You’ll even find products that you want to take home. Both the wine and beer menus offer an extensive selection of drinks, while the dinner and lunch menus offer dishes such as chicken parma and a fish of the day.
