Hoosegow Charcoal Restaurant & Bar says they chose to use the name hoosegow because we’re all “prisoners of food.” (Hoosegow is an informal North American word for a prison). As such, they offer their customers flavorful, charcoal-grilled items to let them “surrender to flavor.”
There are plenty of barbeque items on Hoosegow’s menu that showcase tasty, charcoal-cooked flavors. If you’re looking for meat, they have everything from pork belly to lamb cutlets. Since there’s a large Spanish influence here, they even offer items like txistorra – spiral Spanish chorizo.
If you’re more in the mood for seafood, they have you covered as well. This part of the menu includes soft shell crab, lobster tail, South Australian king prawns, and even more unique options like chilli mussels and Mexican chilli squid if you want to be a little more adventurous.
2. Cobbler Creek Recreation Park
There’s no better way to enjoy barbeque than with family and friends on a warm summer night. As such, it isn’t a surprise that many of Australia’s national parks have features to accommodate an impromptu barbeque. You can bring a friend along or try your own hand at making barbeque with their available grills or even set up your own portable grill to get started. This is a very popular restaurant in Adelaide – they’ve served over 150,000 people in the last 5 years! Not only are they dedicated to great food by they also want to give you a great atmosphere to eat in as well.
This restaurant has an all-you-can-eat buffet-style setup. When you get there, you’ll have your choice of 60 different dishes. This ranges from the standard seafood, meats, and vegetables to traditional Korean dishes like kimchi and calamari teppanyaki.
You can also grab a drink here such as wine, beer, and non-alcoholic options. They also have a BYO service available.
4. The Sneaky Pickle
If you want a taste of the United States while you’re in Adelaide, you can check out a spin on American classics at The Sneaky Pickle. They canvassed the U.S. to learn techniques that will encompass “big American flavors.”
You can find all the classics here – brisket, pulled pork, pork loin, ribs, and more. They also offer traditional sandwiches here too including smoked pulled pork sandwiches, BBQ brisket sandwiches, and fried chicken sandwiches.
They have tasty appetizers such as fried pickles, cherry smoked chicken wings in Alabama white sauce, chilli bowls, and fried chicken. Fries, coleslaw, potato salad, mashed potatoes, and bread rolls are available as sides. They’re a dinner restaurant, so make sure to be there between 5:30 and 9 PM.
5. Nik’s BBQ On the Lake
You can find Nik’s BBQ On the Lake on a busy street corner with a perfect view of Mawson Lakes. They’re well-known for their barbeque and street food.
No matter if you’re ordering from the take out menu or the dine in one, you’re going to get tasty options that you’re sure to love. They have poultry, seafood, Greek dishes, and even vegetarian options.
For BBQ lovers, the “Flame Grilled Meats” menu is especially appealing. They offer a variety of chicken dishes from traditional BBQ chicken to Teryaki chicken. You can even order up some flame-grilled quail if you want to try something unique and delicious.
