Wellington has such a great and diverse range of bars to cater for everyone’s needs! You can choose from karaoke bars, cocktail bars, craft bars and of course heaps of Irish bars where all the craic is! Here are my personal Top 5 bars in Wellington and ones that I think you should definitely check out when you visit New Zealands capital city (make sure you also check out the Courtenay Place / Cuba Street bars )
So counting down my Top 5 bars in Wellington…
Number 5 – The Fringe Bar is an entertainment venue found on Allen Street. Stand Up Comedy, Theater, Karaoke, Live Music and Open Acoustic Music Nights can all be enjoyed here. This fun bar continues right into the early morning and it really is a fantastic venue.
Number 4 – Southern Cross A favourite with the locals, this place has an awesome heated outside area, delicious food (2 for 1 Stone Grill on a Monday and Tuesdays) and live music several nights a week.
Number 3 – Little Beer Quarter Hidden away on Edward Street LBQ is (self proclaimed) Beer Geeks Heaven with 14 beers on tap and over 100 different craft beer and cider in the fridges. They do a mean pizza as well!
Number 2 – St John’s Bar is located over by the Waterfront. On a sunny day it’s a beautiful place to chill with a beer, relax and take in the beautiful views of the glorious Wellington Waterfront. It has cool bean bags scattered over the green grass area outside, so it’s a perfect place to kick back.
Obviously Number 1! – Blend Bar. Part of and right next door to our Nomads Wellington hostel, Blend Bar is right in the city centre of Wellington. It’s a cosy bar that always has fun things going on! Friday night in particular is the place to be with 2 for 1 drinks, can’t beat it! Plus, with $5 Happy Hour every day from 5-7pm and specials for in-house guests it’s the perfect spot to cater for all your backpacker needs!
