Sydney Markets

Whether you’re a backpacker or a resident of any city, everyone loves a good market. There’s food, clothes, souvenirs, the odd busker and entertainer, and if you’re lucky some live bands. They are cheap, they are fun and they are another way of trying new things and meeting new people.

Bondi Markets

When? The Bondi Markets are open every Sunday from 10am until 4pm
Where? In the beach front gardens of Bondi Beach Public School.

The markets are a great place to pick up some vintage or designer clothes, pancakes, books, hand made jewellery, arts and crafts and some great picks from up and coming local designers.

Glebe Markets

When? Every Saturday from 10 am till 4pm
Where? The Glebe Markets are situated close to Victoria Park, where you can head afterwards.

Into the hippie style? Make your way to Glebe, a suburb near to the city centre. Enjoy the search through all the awesome vintage clothes while listening to several live-bands. The atmosphere is laidback and when the sun is out, people just come around to chill out and relax on a Saturday afternoon.

The Rocks Markets

When? Fridays 9:00am – 3:00pm. Saturdays & Sundays 10:00am – 5:00pm.
Where? The Rocks!

The Rocks are always buzzing with bars, cafes, shops and restaurants – not to mention it’s also a great place to grab some photos of Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. The Rocks Markets have a range of stalls to browse through and so many cheap foods to nibble on! Fridays are a special “Friday Foodies Market” and you won’t be short of delicious eats to choose from!

Paddington Markets

When? Every Saturday 10am to 4pm
Where? Oxford Street

Head on down to Sydney’s alternative suburb to check out all things unique, weird and designer. The Paddington Markets take place every Saturday throughout summer on infamous Oxford Street. It’s been a long running, iconic Sydney event that has been held since 1973!

Wander through the maze of 250 stalls of clothes, art works, books, jewellery and pottery. There is also a wide range of food stalls to choose from, in case you have spent the whole day shopping! What I really love about Paddington Market is that it is filled with mainly local hand made products. That means: No stalls full of fake bags, nick nacks and souvenirs which you won’t enjoy for long until you chuck them into the bin. And nowhere in sight are the typical tourist Australia souvenirs. But wait! You want to buy typical Australian souvenirs? – Then you should visit Paddy’s market in the city centre after you’ve checked out this one.

Paddington Market is located on the busy Paddington shopping strip, close to Oxford Street. Stroll to Paddington on a Saturday, where the market is open from 10 am to 4pm. Over the summer months, it’s open till 5.

Paddy’s Market (Haymarket)

When? 10am to 6pm Wednesday to Sunday
Where? Market City, Corner Hay St & Thomas St

Visiting Paddy’s Market is a real experience, with over 1,000 stalls it is the biggest market in Chinatown. Once in the market you will be amazed by the intensity. The scale is huge and there are millions of items that can be bought, there is literally something for everyone! Enjoy your time in the market while taking in the sights, sounds and smells! They sell almost everything from fashion and accessories to fresh fruit and vegetables.

The market is the ultimate favourite for Sydney-siders and tourists. Interested in cheap veggies & fruit? Go to Paddy’s on a Sunday afternoon, and get boxes filled with fruit and vegetables for $1! Cheap as hey? There’s also a Paddy’s Market in Flemington, but Haymarket is my fave.

North Sydney Market

When? Every 2nd Saturday of the month
Where? Miller Street, North Sydney

North Sydney Market is an outdoor market with freshly made cakes and other home baked goodies, arts and crafts, clothes, books and second hand goods. There’s also reflexology and massage treatments, live entertainment between 9am and 1pm and food stalls. Make sure you get out there and score some deals. You know what they say one mans junk is another mans treasure.

And if it’s raining, don’t fret, the market moves to the top floor of the Ridge Street car park. There’s free car parking available as well.

Bonus – Chinatown Night Markets

If you like food, then this one’s for you! Every Friday night from 4pm until 11pm throughout summer, Sydney’s Chinatown transforms into Little Eat Street with street stalls, lanterns, music, light shows and over 50 asian food stalls to choose from.
