Byron Bay Markets

Written by: - Reading time: 4 minutes

The Byron Bay markets are very famous and if you are coming to visit, then a trip to at least one of them should definitely be on your list of things to do. The markets rate number one for so many different things! Amongst the locals the markets are rated as the best place to eat, for hippies, a place to dance and for tourists a place to buy paraphernalia symbolic of their experiences.

There are several markets in town, from farmers markets to stalls showcasing locally handcrafted products (perfect for souvenirs for your family or yourself!) to speciality markets that occasionally happen such as the Byron Bay Surf Festival Market.

Byron Bay Community Market

TheByron Bay Community Market is probably the best known market and it happens on every first Sunday of the month. Local sellers bring their own products to Butler Street where they have their stalls. It is not only food that you can buy, but also wonderful artwork, hand-made jewellery, massages, painting, music and other wares. The Byron Bay Community Market is the biggest market in town; it is exciting to see all the local products and homemade products.

The Artisan Market

Smaller than the Community Market, The Artisan Market is held during the spring and summer at the Railway Park on every Saturday night between 4pm and 9pm. It provides local sellers a place to show their products to all the travellers and other visitors in Byron Bay. Every Saturday you can find creative pieces of art and crafts, there are stands with homemade jewellery, local artists are performing on a small stage and you can enjoy plenty of fresh locally-grown food and drinks as well.

The Farmers Market

The Farmers Market is also a famous market in Byron Bay. It’s located, like the Artisan Market, at the Railway Park. At the Farmers Market you can get plenty of delicious fresh, organic, locally-grown food. Besides the tropical and temperate fruit and vegetables, you can also get meat, eggs, coffee and other edible products. The Farmers Market is held every Thursday from 8am till 11am at the Railway Park. Get your fresh and locally-grown food over there!

Byron Bay Surf Festival Market

In addition to the above regular markets there is also the annual Byron Bay Surf Festival Market. Part of the Byron Bay Surf festival itself (late October) this market is relevant to surfing. Not especially surfers, but it represents the surfing culture, surf art, handmade boards, swimwear and accessories and is part of the Artisan market. On the stage there are a lot of local singers.

My advice is to save some money on your daily products and go to visit the Byron Bay markets, if you would like to experience what Byron Bay really is about.

  1. Can I hire a stall for the Byron Bay community markets? The next one I would like to book. I make deer antler jewellery and deer antler perfume and after shave.
