The Beach Hotel is a great place to go at any time of day. Start the day there with a coffee, have lunch (a bit pricey on a backpacker budget admittedly) and then see the bar transform from a family friendly beachside restaurant to a live music venue at night. A great place to drink a beer with friends, relax in the sun and listen to live music. It is the place to be for surfers, locals, tourists and backpackers to enjoy the beautiful sea views and atmosphere. They also have entertainment at night time with amazing DJ’s and live bands. The Northern is an old style hotel with a grand old pub where you can see live music and meet with family and friends. Many locals come here, so if you’re tired of the many backpackers in town you should visit ‘The Northern’, it’s just round the corner from Nomads Byron Bay. Hosting bands such as The White Stripes and PJ Harvey in the past, you never know who you’ll see live here! They also offer a wide range of meals for lunch and dinner. 4. The Rails

Located in the heart of Byron Bay you can find The Rails, formally known as The Railway Friendly Bar. It is a former railway station where train travellers could just order a beer directly from their window. Although the station is no longer in use for train transport, it is used for something more in the style of Byron Bay; a bar. It is a very popular place for locals to meet up after work and listen to the fantastic live music every night, although from time to time backpackers also visit this unique location. While you relax and enjoy the music you can watch sports on their various screens inside, or order one of the excellent meals they serve there.

A great nightclub for a fun night out, that’s what La La Land is! It’s a small nightclub with a dance floor and balcony outside where you can have your smoke. The music provides fuel to get the party started. You will hear some of the newest DJ-talents in music but also cool international acts.

The Sticky Wicket (formerly Cocomangas) is a popular late night sports bar located in Jonson Street in the middle of town. 8. Woody’s Surf Shack

Woody’s Surf Shack is the place to be for surfers, backpackers and locals. It’s the bar with the best nightlife in Byron Bay (in my opinion!), everybody will love the rocking vintage surf vibe.

There’s a dance floor where you can dance like no-one is watching, or just hang around and maybe meet a few people. Woody’s is open every day of the week except Sunday and is the best place to drink something after a day of surfing, laying at the beach or for those of us not on holiday… after a hard day at work. Don’t miss your chance to win a surfboard every Wednesday!

    1. It should be normal trading hours on easter Saturday, however to be certain they’re open it would be best to contact the pubs you wish to visit

  1. Do you know if 17 year olds are allowed into these places (obviously not too drink) – just considering Byron bay for schoolies and have a friend that will only be 17

  2. Thanks for this, good write up. I am going there for the Easter break for surfing, keen to get out at night though for a drink and a good chat with people. Cheers Adam
