Choosing a skydiving location is hard – when you can skydive almost anywhere in Australia, choosing one location over another is a difficult decision.

So how do you choose the right skydiving location? There are five main factors that most people use to choose where they will skydive:

  • Price of the skydive
  • Location – some people are happy to travel for the best views while soaring through the air, while others just want to experience skydiving
  • Aircraft used – this is a major factor if you are wanting to skydive with a large group of family and friends
  • Altitudes available
  • Reputation of the skydiving company

Rottnest Island is one of the top skydiving locations in Australia and it’s not hard to see why people choose to skydive here. To start with, it is the only island skydiving location in Western Australia and has amazing beach and water views and landings.

We’ve put together a great little list of reasons why you need to go skydiving on Rottnest Island.

Why You Need To Skydive on Rottnest Island

1. The Views

The top reason people choose skydiving on Rottnest Island is the views. Simply put, there is no where else in Western Australia where you can skydive over an island, so you’ll get some amazing views of the water, the beach, the town of Rottnest, and if lucky, you may even be able to see the WA coastline as you freefall.

2. The Bucket List

If you’ve got skydiving on your bucket list, a trip to Rottnest is a great way to mark it off. Not only will you get the chance to skydive over some of the best views in the country, but you can also take your chance to grab a selfie with a quokka and spend some time exploring the 45km of walking and cycle trails that cross the island.

3. Amazing Photos and Video

Re-live the entire experience over and over again with amazing photos and video footage, from getting on the plane to landing back on the ground. For not a lot more, you can add a photo and video package to your skydive. It’s well worth it when you see the faces on the family and friends who never thought you’d jump out of a plane!

4. The Challenge

If jumping from a plane has always been a challenge you wanted to face, Rottnest Island is the place to do it. It’s not unusual to have a fear of heights or be scared about jumping out of a plane, but with the opportunity to land on the beach and fly over the island, this is a great place to challenge those fears head on.

5. The Ride Over

There are three ways to make your way over to Rottnest – air, ferry or your own boat. Going by air allows you the chance to view the island, while the ferry, although a longer trip, gives you the chance to look out for marine creatures on the way and enjoy the breeze in your hair.

There is so much to do on Rottnest Island other than skydiving. Why not stay a couple of days, jump from that plane and then spend time exploring the 45km of walking trails, take a glass bottomed sea kayak tour or do some snorkelling?

7. Stress Reduction

There can be no greater stress reduction than kicking back on an island, having a meal, a few drinks and great conversation with friends and family. Apart from jumping out of a plane that is! Skydiving is known to have a great effect on reducing your stress levels, because you simply think of nothing else other than what you are about to do. With an adrenaline rush that lasts for days afterwards, you’ll be ready to face those stressful issues head on.

8. The Landing Zone

There aren’t too many places where you can land on the beach after a skydive. There are three beach landing sites used – Bickley Bay Beach, Thomson Bay/Army Jetty Beach and Salmon Bay Beach. Depending on the weather conditions on the day, you’ll land on one of these beaches. There will be plenty of time for spectators to make their way to the beach to watch you land.

One of the great things about skydiving on Rottnest Island is the people you’ll meet. These are people just like you, looking for a challenge, looking to conquer their fears or simply looking for an adrenaline rush.
