Scuba Diving with Sharks Underwater World

Written by: - Reading time: 3 minutes

My hearts pumping at a million miles an hour, my legs are jelly and I’m about 90% sure that I am about to become the Sunshine Coast’s largest portion of fish food. That’s right I’m about to have the most wicked travel experience of a life time – I’m going scuba diving with Sharks!!!

I park myself on the edge of the Shark tank at Underwater World and frantically try to remember everything my helpful, calm instructor told me before he (literally) fed me to the fishes, but for some reason the words are escaping me. Ok here we go, I think I need to put the little rubber thingy in my mouth – oh goody that helps me breathe!

At this stage I am just remembering how to swim and starting to pick up this whole scuba diving thing too. It’s actually quite beautiful down here! A beautiful slow moving Mantra Ray glides past me and I can’t believe how amazing this is. I am completely at ease, that is until I see row after row of teeth coming towards me and my heart moves from my chest to my throat in one quick movement.

A large shark glides slowly towards me, despite being beyond terrified I can’t help but be awestruck by the beauty of the huge shark coming towards me. Suddenly it looks too beautiful to be a predator, I start relaxing and really start enjoying this experience of a lifetime – Bindi Irwin eat your heart out! I’ve become a fly on the wall of the creatures of the deep’s lives and I too am being watched.

That’s the beauty of Underwater World, the fact that it is a huge aquarium with a massive walk through for anyone who wants to check out fish, sharks, turtles and everything in between (including me!). After a quick wave to Mum – who has her nose pressed against the glass on the other side of the tank, I realise it’s time to rejoin the land of the walking and slowly make my way to the top of the tank to go check out the rest of Underwater Word.

What else is there to see at Underwater World on the Sunshine Coast? We saw Crocodiles, Turtles, Otters, Seals and Seahorses just to name a few! There are loads of underwater relics and a wicked touch tank where you can hold starfish and more!

Where can you have this brilliantly wicked experience of a lifetime? On the Sunshine Coast in a town called Mooloolaba (Moo-loo-lah-bar) about a 35-40 minutes travel from Noosa Heads.

A definite must do while in Noosa, it will be the most heart pumping, breath taking experience of not just your holiday but of a lifetime.
