Kia ora and welcome to "Making A Difference" MAD. MAD has been brought to you by Nomads Auckland, Crash Palace Rotorua, Tamaki Tours and Whaka Thermal Village Tours. MAD is an opportunity for you to participate in a seven day programme that involves community, cultural and conservation development and enhancement.
Rotorua is the heart of Maori culture in New Zealand and we have selected Whakarewarewa, The Living Thermal Village because it is a cultural, historic & environmental icon worth protecting and sustaining.
This 4 day program commences every Tuesday, so plan on arriving into Nomads Auckland on Sunday night and transferring to Rotorua on Monday (although your Auckland accommodation may be used whenever is convenient, we recommend 1 night pre and 1 night post Rotorua). When you arrive to Auckland you'll pick up your Nomads Mad Membership including travel discounts valid across NZ and Oz!

Thank you for taking part and we hope you enjoy making a difference within our living thermal village! It includes a packed lunch and transfers to/from the hostel, and daily cultural activities. The daily programs are usually from 9am - 3pm.
The traditional hangi has been steaming under the earth on hot rocks for a number of hours, ready for your arrival! Enjoy succulent New Zealand meats with a lovely, slightly-smoked flavour and fresh vegetables. As well as hangi, you will enjoy Maori bread, fresh salads and seafood, mouth-watering desserts and more. Feast on as much as you like - it is our honour to fill your belly and your heart with our traditional Maori hospitality!
7 night Volunteer Package includes 2 nights dorm accommodation & light breakfast at Nomads Auckland, 5 nights dorm accommodation & light breakfast at Crash Palace Rotorua, 4 day volunteer program including lunch & transfers daily, cultural activities, Hangi (dinner) & cultural performance. Does not include arrival airport transfers: to get to Nomads Auckland, take Airbus approximate cost N$16. Transfers between Auckland and Rotorua not included - direct buses take approximately 2 hours & cost approx N$35. These can be arranged on arrival to Nomads Auckland if required & should be booked in advance over summer. Return transfer from rotorua to Auckland not included.
Volunteer program commences every Tuesday, so arrival into Rotorua should be Monday (departing Saturday). 2 nights in Auckland will be booked by default for Day 1 & Day 7 but may be used anytime if advised in advance.
Mad Card & Book will be collected at Nomads Auckland on arrival. Tamaki Tours evening 'hangi' (dinner) departs at 6pm. Book by 12pm on the day by contacting 0508 TAMAKI.
No-shows are nonrefundable and a 1 night penalty is due to re-book package.
