Well what a year its been again for us at Nomads Queenstown. Not only did we win the Golden Backpack Award for Best Hostel in New Zealand 2013, making it four years in a row, but our awesome boss Aimee has decided to leave us and try out new awesome adventures of her own. So for us here in Nomads Queenstown... The times they really are a changing!
Aimee's a legend here at Nomads Queenstown, she helped build the hostel up from the start to what it is now. She helped to build those very first beds in the hostel, greeted the first guest to come through the doors and hand picked the staff that helped get us on our way to winning that first Golden Backpack Award. It's her baby and now she's handing it over. She is a genuine 'Gc' and will truly be missed. For us... the pressure is now on, not only to win that number 5 but to keep her baby intact! (insert a wee worried face) Ha The only thing I am sure of is that, if we can be half as successful as she was... we'll still be winning. :)
So in true Nomads Queenstown style there was only one thing to do... Yeah that's right... you know it... We throw a huge party to celebrate the win and the loss. What did we do? We hired a boat; The Luanda, Where did we go? Out on Lake Wakatipu and what did we wear? Pirate costumes of course!
This was never going to be a respectable or quiet shindig, from the start it was always about getting loose and loud and leaving our dignity on dry land. Our first stop before the boat was Minus 5 Ice Bar, our awesome friends here hooked us up with cocktails and laughs. We were off to a great start. We had 3 hours on the Luanda but within the first 5 minutes the Jagerbombs had started, and I think we all know already how this is going to end... not well! Lol.
The 3 hours flew by from private pirate twerking to almost naked jumps in the lake from the top of the boat, to me being dropped on my head (thanks Kris). There was lots of showing off... (by myself especially, hence why I ended up on my head!) :) At this point I heard the captain shout "bring out the food"! So the food was to be cooked. I think he could see that the evening was going downhill and fast! "Bring out the food" will stick in my head forever!
It was pretty dark when we got off the boat (never noticed this whilst on the boat). Just as well I reckon! We took ourselves to a couple of our favourite bars, like The Boiler Room and then to The Find for more beersies and Jager!
What a party and what a great send off for Aims... If she enjoyed it as half as much as we did... then she had a great night.
So it's with a heavy heart that I say goodbye and good luck, and hopefully we'll keep up all your hard work. We'll practise what you preached, hopefully keeping number 5 within reach! This is not the end, just the beginning, Nomads Queenstown and Aimee J will always be winning.
You've asked me for four years to write a blog, so... This is it... Four years in the making! lol Thank you for everything FRIEND... You're a bloody legend!
