Embarrassing situations at work

Badbreathatwork

I think anyone who has ever had a job has had one of those moments where you just wanted to crawl back into bed and pull your blanket over your head; since that solves all problems. Here's some embarrassing situations that can happen at work and how to prevent them from happening (again). Of course not all situations are equally embarrassing, so to distinguish them from one another I'll use a star (*) ranking system from 1 to 5 where 1 is the easiest embarrassing situation to get away with without anyone noticing it, while the number 5 situations are so embarrassing that you might as well find a new job.

Healthy eating on a backpacker budget

LauraNoodles-2

Tired of noodles and rice?? I was. For the same budget, find your local fresh market and get loads of fruits and vegetables instead. Check out what days and times the markets are open until, then capitalize on it! If they're closed on Mondays, then go Sunday during their last few hours, all products are typically at bottom-low prices.

The "perfect" camping trip

campingtripbreakfast

The following is a 'hypothetical' situation and may or may not have happened to one of our staff here at Nomads Auckland.

So what makes a perfect camping trip? First of all you need a group of people, preferably a group that you could consider being with for a certain amount of time and in a small amount of space. Done?! Now you need to decide on a destination and pick a suitable car that would fit everyone perfectly, or just comfortable enough for a few hours ;) Done! Now it's up to everyone to get some days off together and the trip can begin.

How to avoid Jet Lag

plane-jetlag

Arriving in a new country is one of the most exciting feelings however, sometimes the feeling of excitement can be overcome by the feelings or being tired, uncomfortable, in need of a shower and worst of all feeling Jet Lagged. Jet Lag can come in two forms, you will either want to sleep and do nothing else or you will be totally hyperactive. "Jet lag is the physiological condition which results from the alteration to the body's circadian rhythms" (Wikipedia) or for us non science folk 'your body clock'. Changing time zones after a long flight can affect your body in numerous ways. None of which are very nice.

General Hostel Etiquette!

sexinadorm

For those that haven't travelled much, will be travelling in the near future or have just started their round the world adventure, this is for you to learn the 'rules' of backpackers in hostels. For those who are avid travellers you will probably agree with most of these. We've all met these people.

Unofficial rules of Dorm Living

shareddormaccommodation

You would not be a proper traveller if at some point you haven't lived it up in dorm share accommodation in a hostel. I think some people have this perception about what it is like and it is not always a good one. Speaking as someone who has been travelling for a while now I think staying and sharing a dorm room is one of the best experiences in terms of meeting people and having one hell of a good time.

Cabin fever

spider

On the night of January 27th, 2013, cyclone Oswald hit the east coast of Australia, terrorizing small towns and cities with destructive winds and flooding rains. OMG! Here in Byron Bay the whole town went black when we had a power cut! (It felt like zombies and creepy crawlies lurked around every corner just waiting to get you)... we huddled in the safety of Nomads Byron Bay, and this is when cabin fever set in, what to do?

The Nightman Cometh

nomads reception

Working Night Shift at Nomads Queenstown is a unique job. The day shift people have it tough enough, having to deal with multiple guests all wanting to check in at the same time, double bookings, Bungles farts etc... all terrible stuff. But we at night must deal with something much worse. We must deal with the night people...

The low points and unspoken side of backpacking

LauraNoodles-2

Backpacking has its high points, the meeting new people, experiencing new things, new cultures, seeing things you never would have dreamed of seeing, but I'm sorry, I am about to shatter the illusion that it's problem free because truth be told backpacking can have low points too.
