If you know me, then you are already know that I am a baby, ask any one of my colleagues at Nomads Auckland and they'll tell you what a big baby I am. I back out of bungee jumps, cry on skywalks and shake violently anywhere high so the idea of paragliding in Queenstown with G-Force Queenstown was most certainly not on my radar! I am definitely not a true red blooded thrill seeker, I am however a trier...
On a recent trip to Queenstown, I found myself at the top of the Queenstown Skyline ready for a few Luges, what's not to love about Luging? Downhill racing in a kart with a beautiful backdrop, it was safe and exciting and enough to get my adrenaline going, enough to make me say, hmm what else can I do on this beautiful day. I know, how about paragliding?
I think my senses had somehow been thrown into disarray, maybe I hit my head on the luge, because I was walking willingly up a track to an extremely high point of the mountain, preparing to ultimately throw myself into the sky, good times.
The guys at G-Force Paragliding were absolute legends, any fear I had was thrown out and replaced by excitement, they love their jobs, who wouldn't, their office is the sky, so it was easy to be excited about what we were about to do when they projected so much love for it.
I stood at the top and took in the panoramic views of Queenstown... what a beautiful place. The hill I was to run off wasn't as bad as I had expected, I was instructed by Cade that when he runs I run and before we know it our feet will be off the ground.
So I got strapped in, had a mini panic attack, recovered, composed myself, then Cade said run so I shut my eyes and ran and in a split second we were cruising high in the sky and all the nerves and butterflies instantly evaporated.
Paragliding is something that I never thought I would do, I assumed it was for the thrill seekers, (and like I said, I am not a thrill seeker... even a Merry-Go-Round at a kids amusement park is sometimes too scary for me - give me a cup of tea and a biscuit and I'm happy) but it was the most amazing feeling, floating in the sky with all the stunning scenery below, it was serene and relaxing and amazing and I really didn't want it to be over.
But we all know that all good things must come to an end and surely it did, my feet touched the ground and although I was sad that my paragliding experience with G-Force Paragliding was over, I was on a high for days thinking about the incredible experience I'd had. I even think I might do it again one day!
