Darwin Travel Guide

Darwin is the Capital city of the Northern Territory and has a tropical climate. The average temperature all year in Darwin and The Top End is around 32°C.

The best time of year to visit depends on you. The climate is perfect between May and October with gorgeous sunny days, getting cooler at night.

But the rainy (monsoon) season fills the rivers and creates stunningly beautiful landscapes.

Kakadu is about 3 hours away from Darwin but is famous the world over for being a National Park jointly managed by national park directors and aboriginal land owners. This merger alloys visitors to sample the incredible aboriginal history from the last 50,000 years as well as the endangered wildlife often endemic to the area. It comes as no surprise to anyone who has visited Kakadu National Park that this biodiverse area was been named on not one but two World Heritage Lists. One for its natural beauty and one for its cultural significance.

The National Parks around Darwin draw thousands upon thousands of visitors every year thanks to their cultural and natural appeal. Darwin in itself differs from other areas of Australia thanks to its hot and stormy climate and isolated nature. Travelling to Darwin from any other city or even town can take days and the changing landscape promotes a feeling of being the only person on the land.

It can be argued that Darwin and the Northern Territories show you a much more real idea of what Australia is and used to be in comparison to the backpacker orientated East Coast.
