WOW, 50 metres towering over the pool, with views all the way to the Great Barrier Reef, "what am i doing" is all that is going around in my head. You're about to bungy jump 50m head first into water. WHY WHY WHY... "ok" the guys yell "it's time, you ready for the ultmate rush?". "ITS BUNGY TIME" but just remember don't look down, yeah thats gunna work. Ok so when you're ready BUNGY BUNGY BUNGY, but smile for the camera first.

First of all I would like to emphasize that I have wanted to get my PADI Open Water Dive Certificate for around 4 years, but living in England has not really brought many opportunities without having to deal with freezing cold temperatures. So what better place to consider completing the PADI Open Water Dive Course than the world famous and original diving haven, The Great Barrier Reef. I chose Down Under Dive after being advised to by a friend and also considering that they were one of the cheapest companies operating from Cairns.

Feeling a bit run down from the steady diet of 2 minute noodles and goon? Finding it a bit more difficult to get out of your dorm bed in the morning? Instead of grabbing a Red Bull for an energy boost, why not take a trip to Rusty's Markets this weekend and stock up on some fruit and vegetables. Rusty's Markets is a favorite among locals for offering the best fresh produce from the surrounding areas sold direct from the farmers themselves.

Maybe like me you've come to Cairns a bit of a coffee addict and bemoaned what appears to be a shortage of decent cafes... I would like to assure you all though that this is not entirely the case. An early walk around town can lead to quite a few decent cafes that serve some great cups of coffee. One thing that most of these shops have in common is that they serve locally grown coffee... so last weekend I got to actually take a trip out to Skybury Coffee Plantation - the home of Cairns coffee!

Snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef is a must-do in Cairns, essentially it is Cairns' bread and butter and therefore there is no reason why you cannot snorkel the Great Barrier Reef in style. The Osprey is Down Under Dive's very impressive vessel, complete with changing rooms and an awesome sundeck for those moments between exploring the most famous reef in the world.

reefteach

Reef Teach in Cairns is where you get your learning on. I know most people didn't come all the way to Australia to sit in a classroom but this is possibly one of the best experiences you can do in Cairns, second to the Great Barrier Reef.

For $15 you get to learn all about the life under the water, from the fish you are most likely to spot on your dive or snorkel to the coral that you will be swimming amongst, as well as some excellent tips on how to get that awesome underwater fish and your face shot.

tropicalzoo

Cairns Tropical Zoo is one of the attractions you should do if you love animals. It is a place where everyone can spend time with pleasure, both adults and children.

During the day, we participated in different presentations and got some information about wildlife thanks to the professionals on hand. We discovered so many reptiles, birds, mammals, and different species from all around the world.

When arriving in Cairns I think that many people are focused on doing the Great Barrier Reef and Cape Tribulation and they may forget about the other hidden treasures that the area has to offer. Don't get me wrong, The Great Barrier Reef is one of the most amazing places I have ever been, but it also important to get out and see the rest of the area. The Tablelands is one of Far North Queensland's hidden treasures and is a must see when in Cairns.
