Cairns is notorious for its hot weather and people are constantly looking for ways to cool down in the summer sun. Jumping in the lagoon or your hostels swimming pool might not cut it on some days, so why not try something exciting, but at the same time very refreshing! White Water Rafting is a very popular activity in Cairns but the choppy water and adrenaline packed day is not for everyone, maybe you are looking for something a bit more chilled out. If this is the kind of day you're looking for then maybe a tubing trip on the Behana River is the way forward.

Cairns is known for its beautiful scenic views, stunning surroundings and the endless activities that you can partake in. There is something for everyone. The only thing missing from Cairns is a beach. There is the option of spending the day at Cairns Esplanade lagoon or chilling by a swimming pool but sometimes a day at the beach is a nice change. Although the walk along the Esplanade runs alongside the ocean, due to restrictions, (aka crocodiles), you are not able to swim there. In this weather having cold water to jump into to cool off is a must so it's a good job that there are numerous beaches not too far away.

Cairns is the place to be when it comes to adrenaline filled activities and next on my list was white water rafting on the Tully river! On the morning of my trip I made my way to the Raging Thunder office and checked in for what I knew was going to be a great day. It was 6.30am, but the staff do a good job of waking you up with their enthusiasm of what to expect on the day.

We know that there is nothing worse than arriving in a new place with no money, all the exciting stuff you could do will have to wait until you have saved up money or sweet talked your parents into giving you emergency funds, but Cairns Botanical Gardens is free and is one of many free things to do in Cairns. Cairns Botanical Gardens is located just north of the City Centre, only a 10 minute walk from Nomads Cairns and is definitely worth checking out.

Since arriving in Cairns, amongst many things, skydiving has been up there in my top 'Must Do's'. I have spoken about it so much but something always seemed to get in way. Whether it was that painful hangover that didn't allow me to get out of bed or something else exciting planned it just never seemed to happen.

Sometimes it's hard to be focussed on staying fit while you're travelling, well unless you're lucky enough to have a fun job, like this one, on your working holiday, however in Cairns it's quite easy to stay fit and you don't have to join a gym to do it because there's plenty of ways to stay fit for free.
