Airlie Beach Travel Guide

Consisting of no more than one main strip of road you would be surprised how much you will enjoy your time in Airlie Beach with the bars bustling and the small shops and eateries great places to head to after a day chilling out on the beach or by the infamous lagoon.

The 74 Whitsunday Islands, or 102 depending on whether or not you wish to include some rocks here and there are featured in just about every Tourism Australia campaign and with good reason, we are talking idyllic beaches, bright blue waters and an overwhelming sense of calm and relaxation.

robo tour airlie beach

I thought I would never be able to walk again... after experiencing life on a mini segway, why would I even want to? Last week, us girls here at Nomads Airlie Beach tested out the brand new ROBO tour offered by Fun Rentals in the heart of sunny Airlie Beach. Being somewhat of a late-rising town (with locals and backpackers alike sporting hangovers most days of the week), we opted for the afternoon ride. The two hour tour goes down to the Port of Airlie Marina and back again, and includes a drink when you stop at Denmans Cellars for a half time.

I arrived at the Airlie Beach Abel Point marina to find over 100 people waiting to board their boats, there were 3 or 4 boats sailing that day, it was a great experience to get to know fellow travellers interested in the Whitsunday islands, we all signed the relevant paperwork and were sent aboard, after we were allocated our beds and stored our luggage we were then taken onto the deck and advised of the itinerary for the next two days and of course we had a safety briefing.

I recently had a wonderful opportunity to go out on one of the most popular 2 day, 2 night trips around the Whitsundays known as Wings 3.

My Wings 3 trip set for departure on Sunday around midday. It was a beautiful day in the Whitsundays; sun was shining, no clouds in the sky, 28 degrees with a slight breeze, most would not argue if I said it was absolutely perfect weather. We then made our way to Blue Pearl Bay located at the top of Hayman Island for an afternoon filled with snorkeling and diving!

So we all know (or should know by now!) that Airlie Beach is famous for being the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and of course the gateway to sailing around the 74 magnificent Islands on a boat! Here at Nomads Airlie Beach we hear on a daily basis how much people loved their trip and they wished they could have more time out on the water, some people even come back with a new found passion for sailing and the skills behind it and want to soak it all up like a sponge!

There are many options when it comes to overnight boat trips in the Whitsundays. Whether you want to dive, snorkel, sail, hang out on a massive catamaran, get your party on, or just laze in the sun, there is no shortage of options departing from Airlie Beach to the islands. I recently had the opportunity to board one of these boats and experience it for myself. I went on the Atlantic Clipper 2 day 2 night tour and I had the most amazing time!

They've got it all; from the jacuzzi spa on the top deck and 2 water slides, snorkeling and scuba dive options, and just some good old crazy fun! If you're in your 20's looking to have a good time with a crew that puts on a great show, this is the trip for you.

Get sea sick? Can't stand the thought of sleeping on a boat, but don't want to miss out on the iconic Whitsundays? Then why not do a scenic flight?

This week we were lucky enough to have the opportunity to hop on a scenic flight with GSL Aviation and see the Whitsunday Islands from above!

Looking for a trip around the Whitsunday Islands? Then they don't get much more inclusive than Summertime! I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to have a sneak peak of this 3 day / 2 night sailing adventure as a day trip so the crew could show myself and other Airlie Beach travel agents what we'd been missing out on all this time!

Have you ever looked up into the sky at the stunt planes and said 'Hey I wouldn't mind giving that a go!'. Well I have (pretty much everyday since I moved to Airlie Beach 3 years ago!) but unlike some people (like my friends and family) I actually did it! For the last year, my partner and I have been talking about it but now we can put a big fat line through it on our bucket list as we did it and survived to tell the story! My partner, Dan, and Heidi our Mad Travel Shop staff member here in Nomads Airlie Beach organised it all for my birthday as a surprise... and what a surprise!
