New Zealand has been named in Lonely Planet's fifth annual list of top ten destinations to visit for the year ahead. The list compiled, using the knowledge of Lonely Planet staff, named New Zealand based upon the old saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." According to the authors at Lonely Planet, New Zealand, or as they affectionately dubbed it 'the land of the maori and hobbits' is the home to many life-changing experiences.
Some of these 'life-changing experiences' singled out by Lonely Planet included kayaking in Abel Tasman National Park, taking a flight over Fjiordland and paragliding over Queenstown.
Not only was New Zealand named in the top ten destinations for 2010 but was also mentioned in a couple of other sub-lists. The Otago Peninsula was named in the top ten cycling routes and Dunedin was named in the top ten places to walk your dog therefore ensuring New Zealand, and notably its South Island, an essential destination to visit.
If this wasn't enough, Lonely Planet also commended New Zealand for its attitude towards sustainable tourism practices stating, "NZ is spearheading the ecotravel revolution, winning international accolades for its ethos towards responsible travel." The word of the authors at Lonely Planet says it all, New Zealand is one of the top ten destinations to visit for 2010.
