Hibiscus Coast Auckland

Ahhh the coast. A nice getaway spot for many people in Auckland, especially those who live or work in the city. If you are lucky enough to live up around the Orewa/Hibiscus Coast area then you will know that you have access to some of the nicest beaches not too far North of Auckland. Generally wherever you are in Auckland you are never too far to get to a beach.

If you are just visiting the Auckland area and wish to go out and explore a bit more on a nice sunny day, then you can make a day out of visiting this area. Here is what I recommend for a great day out...

Stanmore bay hibiscus coast

People up around this way are known as the 'coasties'. Still classified as 'Auckland' but not. The Hisbiscus Coast area runs North from Whangaparoa all the way up through Orewa and Waiwera (where you will find some awesome mineral hot pools!). Attracting many people to live and camp in this area simply because of the beautiful beaches, coastline and activities such as Snow Planet, Shakespear Regional Park and the popular Go-Karting. Tiritiri Matangi Island is not far from this point either, just 4km off the coast of the peninsula, accesible via ferry making for a perfect day out. You will find a lot of holiday homes up around here too, it is great for Summer days with ice creams and fush & chups!

To drive up to the Hibiscus Coast from Auckland CBD will take around 30-40 minutes. If you take the Orewa Exit you will be able to easily access many beautiful beaches and surroundings, some of my favourite places to spend the day are Red Beach, with it's amazing surf and panorama views. This then leads onto Stanmore Bay which on a nice day is perfect for a swim and just to relax or enjoy a picnic lunch on the glistening white sand. Orewa Beach is also very popular for horse riding and kayaking on nicer days. All of these activities can be organised at the surrounding shops/booking agencies or we here are happy to call and arrange this for you here at the Mad Travel Shop!

If you are travelling by bus you can catch either the North Star, Ritchies, Howick & Eastern or Birkenhead Transport buses up to the Hibiscus Coast/Orewa area direct from Britomart Transport centre which is just in downtown Auckland City. A lot of people look for day trips around Auckland if they are just here for a short time. This is a great way to really get out of the city and explore all of the wonder that Auckland has to offer.
