st kilda festival 2017

When? 9am to midnight, Sunday 12th February 2017

St Kilda Festival is our favourite kind of festival - FREE! And even better than that you can bag yourself some free samples of a variety of things.

For over 35 years St Kilda has hosted this celebration of Australian music and the community spirit of St Kilda on the foreshore on the second Sunday in February. It is now such a popular festival that it attracts around 400,000 people. This means of course that you need to find somewhere to park up because St Kildas streets will be closed to traffic to make way for 7 stages, market stalls, carnival rides, buskers, kids entertainment... the list goes on...

TIP - You will have an absolutely jam-packed day, just wear comfortable shoes so you can try out some of the dance workshops or join in with some sporting activities!

What's on St Kilda Festival 2017?

Music - With 7 stages there's plenty of music to listen to. Perfomances begin around 11.30 and 12.30 on each of them - for a full line-up of artists performing in 2017 click here.

Activities - It's hard to describe just what's going on under one banner, with activities ranging from 'Aerial Hoop & Swinging Poles' performances to a free open day at the Jewish Museum of Australia. Suffice to say that the community really comes together on St Kilda Festival day and you will find something to do or enjoy. Here's an overview of some of what's on offer...

  • Performances - D2Drumline, Aerial Hoop & Swinging Poles, Latin Dancing, Rewind - Hip Hop Urban Dance, Jazz Burlesque, Street Riders Motorbike Stunt Show, 'Drums we love', The Big Sing.

It's pretty hard to categorise some of the other things going on, with even popular Swedish shop IKEA showcasing it's PS 2017 collection! You can also visit photo-booths, go on walks, enter museums, meet some well known Melbourne celebrities...

After all that dancing or sport then we recommend visiting the chill out zone on the beach for a well earned rest before heading back for more!

Stalls - After spending too much money at the arts and crafts stalls (around 80 of them), then grab yourself a bite to eat at one of over 100 food stalls!

**Please note that St Kilda Festival is an alcohol free zone, except for licensed premises within the zone itself. You will be fined if you get caught!
