Each year hundreds of thousands bustle into the city streets of Melbourne to enjoy the array of comedy shows that make up the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. This year the festival runs from the 28th March – 22nd April 2018 at various locations in and around the CBD. The city comes alive with some of the best local and international comedians, up and coming stars and a load of live music, cabaret, theatrical events, film festivals and entertainment.

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is the third largest of its kind in the world. The festival began in 1987 and has grown to attract over 800,000 visitors year on year. Average ticket prices are $27 but for those on a budget there are many shows and events on offer for $10 or less (or free)! It really is a great time of the year to be visiting Melbourne.

When? The annual Melbourne International Comedy Festival runs from the 28th March – 22nd April 2018.

Where? The central comedy hub is located at Melbourne Town Hall where you can catch some of the major shows, buy tickets and browse program timetables and events. Events take place all over the city: from some of Melbourne’s oldest and historical theatres to small and hip bars throughout the CBD.

Comedy Festival Melbourne 2018 – Our Top Picks:

Opening Night Comedy All Stars Supershow is the best way to catch all of the best local and international comedians all in one night. This event will be televised. Tickets range from $58.95 to $183.35.

Tightarse Tuesdays is a great way to save some $$ on your festival tickets. Book any show on a Tuesday night and find yourself cheaper tickets.

The Great Debate has for long been an iconic event at the comedy festival. In its 28th year, the Great Debate is a hilarious account on the world’s affairs, featuring two hosts and six comedians. The debate takes place at Melbourne Town Hall. Tickets $38 – $59.

The Festival Club is a great starting point for those on a low budget. Hosted at Max Watts Bar (opposite Melbourne Town Hall), most nights of the week welcome a cheap and cheerful comedy show including: 10 Comedians for $10, Haus Party and Lyp Sync Battle.

The RAW Comedy National Grand Final has seen been the birthplace of many of Australia’s greatest comedians. Expect to see some of the country’s best up and coming comedians. Tickets $29 – $36.50.

The Very BIG Laugh Out is a FREE Event takes place at Federation Square. Running throughout the entirety of the comedy festival, you can catch 45 minute comedy acts, street performers and circus shows or check out the showcase which runs for 90 minutes.
