When in Byron Bay it's good to know how to get around easily. After my first week in Byron Bay I can honestly say that the easiest way to get around is by foot. But for the ones who want to get around quickly or want to cross (relatively) big distances in the Byron Bay area, the best option is the bike. And no, I don't mean a Harley Davidson bike, but the more reliable bicycle.

There are several places where you can rent a bike; however, the easiest place to get them is to go to your MAD travel desk at Nomads Byron Bay or the Arts Factory Lodge. It costs only $10 for the entire day.

It's such a relaxing feeling to just cruise around by bike while the sun is shining and the best thing about all of this is that everyone just parks their bikes where ever they want. When going to the beach, just find something to lean your bike against and voilá; your bike can enjoy the ocean view.

While I'm used to Holland, where everyone rides their bikes (even billionaires, I mean why ride your Porsche when you have a bike?!), I was surprised by how many people ride their bikes over here in Byron Bay. However, unlike Holland, not many vehicles will stop to let you pass. So make sure that you ride with your helmet on! I know what you're asking yourself right now; how cool can I look while wearing a helmet? To those people I say: "how cool do you think you will look when your head is split in two?!". But as long as you pay attention you'll be fine and you should definitely just enjoy the great feeling of riding a bike.

if you actually want to do an organised cycling tour where you can learn more about the area or the flora and fauna then come and see us to book a trip with Mountain Bike Tours - highly recommended!

And for all you non-Aussies and non-Brits out there; stay on the left side of the road!

See you guys out there on the road!
