whitehaven beach whitsundays

Australia's very own Whitsunday Islands have been named the second most Instagrammable holiday destination on the planet! The UK edition of Cosmopolitan magazine played tribute to our very own slice of paradise in an article published on the 3rd of August 2016 - and we can see why...

The article names the world's top 18 Instagrammable Holiday Destinations with Mykonos in Greece coming in at Number 1. Tourism Whitsundays CEO Craig Turner responded to the Number 2 listing, "“With so many unique holiday experiences on offer, across the mainland and our 74 islands, it’s not surprising that the Whitsundays is considered to be one of the top holiday destinations in the world. “Each year, the Whitsundays hosts more than 220,000 international visitors."

Each year we welcome an influx of international visitors to Nomads Airlie Beach, excited to explore the tropical paradise that is, the Whitsunday Islands, with Whitehaven Beach being the most popular draw card to the region. Boasting pure silica sands and crystal clear waters, Whitehaven Beach sits within the largest of the islands in the group - Whitsunday Island.

But it's not just international tourists that make their way to Airlie Beach - the gateway to the Whitsundays. Each year the tropical beach side town of Airlie welcomes locals from across Australia - schoolies, honeymooners, footy teams, bucks groups and more. This year Airlie Beach will play host to Australia's very first Spring Break Australia Festival which is expected to bring in hundreds of students from across the east coast. There's no doubt, the Whitsunday Islands is one of the most popular tourist getaways in Australia!
